"Adopt the pace of nature for her secret is patience." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
We all experience intense, overwhelming situations that we can't control, and these circumstances tend to leave wounds, scars, etc. In those times, I am usually the one to avoid pressure and just run. I could use the analogy about how diamonds are made, but I won't, I'll spare you. A term my sister always says to me comes to mind; Occam's Razor, the simplest answer is usually the correct answer or the best choice, so when it comes to pressure I need to look at it in a simplistic way and not run from it.
"Courage is grace under pressure." -Ernest Hemingway I accidentally cut myself recently and I knew to immediately apply pressure so the bleeding would stop, and it did. I may have known to do this because my entire family is in the medical field or because of all the TV shows I have watched. Either way, it made me think about how we all experience tons of pressure in our lives, but we don't always know how to deal with it or use it to our advantage. "The soul helps the body, and at certain moments raises it. It is the only bird that sustains its cage." -Victor Hugo I always wish the soul was visible like our organs are when we have a check up, because then at least we would go and get it treated or have someone look at it, fix it, heal it, but we can't see our souls. We all have scars, cuts, bruises and wounds that are deep that life has pelted at us, but sometimes we are still bleeding out but don't know it. I thought recently, man, we are dying because we don't understand we just need to apply pressure. “Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.” ―Bruce Lee We know that if someone has a deep wound, we must apply pressure to the wound until medical assistance, the ambulance arrives, and that action may be what saves that person's life. I truly want to learn how to see pressure in a helpful way. It is there to save my life, our lives! "Under the pressure of the cares and sorrows of our mortal condition, men have at all times, and in all countries, called in some physical aid to their moral consolations - wine, beer, opium, brandy, or tobacco." -Edmund Burke We all face loss, pain, hurt, people dying and traumatic news everyday, whether it be through media, family, relationships, our own mistakes or just life, but if we resolve to make an effort to apply pressure to the source rather than becoming overwhelmed or hopeless, we may see some new results. "Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it." -Bill Cosby There are so many amazing studies that have been done about psychological, mental health and how laughter, exercise, being thankful, music, art, etc., help and heal the mind. Our minds, brains are just as powerful as our bodies, if not more, because our brains are the hub, center that helps everything in our bodies function. "Everything negative - pressure, challenges - is all an opportunity for me to rise." -Kobe Bryant "To be a champion, you have to learn to handle stress and pressure. But if you've prepared mentally and physically, you don't have to worry." -Harvey Mackay Our brains take in so many things from our past, present and also when we think about the future; it stores everything: sight, sound, touch, taste, smell! Our minds retain data, information, words, details, etc. even when we aren't aware of it, and brings these things back to our remembrance at inopportune times. My hope is that we learn to properly apply pressure to the source of our problems when they arise; it is necessary so we don't unknowingly bleed out and feel dead on the inside. "No matter how good you are at planning, the pressure never goes away. So I don't fight it. I feed off it. I turn pressure into motivation to do my best." -Dr. Benjamin Carson (Neurosurgeon & a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatric medicine and neurosurgery.) keep to your principles; change your leaves, keep intact your roots. -Victor Hugo |
