INVISIBLE PART 6 "THE FUGITIVES"
written by Marini Barika Facey
Cyrus hobbles to a little shack and walks towards the back window. He sees his mother riffling through papers and crying. Cyrus did not know much about his mother's past but always wondered. He was used to her being superstition and paranoid, but he knew she had her reasons.
Cyrus' mother runs through the front door and he peeks around the side of their home in enough time to see her. Now that he is older, Cyrus is startled, because she looks too young to be a mother, but he never seemed to question it when he was child. He walks to the steps and memories flood his mind. The door creaks and he steps inside. The smells are so familiar and everything looks smaller than he remembers, but he still misses it.
Cyrus' mother hides her face as she rushes through the little village, and hopes her son is safe. She wishes the mystery man never came with his invention that brought her son back to life; now she must lose him twice. She knows his life will constantly be in danger because of the healing powers he acquired on that strange day.
She hid many secrets from Cyrus to protect him, but she fears the worst. She frantically looks through the market for her son. She mumbles to herself, "He died as my punishment for all I have done, and he was cursed when he was brought back to life! His gift will bring him too much attention and expose the truth...that I kidnapped him! I only wanted to help him, free him, and now I have lost him again!" Cyrus' mother ran away her entire life and does not want that life for him! She pauses and kneels down in the dust and dirt against a cobblestone wall; her thoughts torment her as she remembers her past.
Rain and hail violently strike the earth. Flashes of lightning are the only brightness in these wretched woods. Copper frantically leaps over fallen limbs and dodges broken branches. Startling lightning flashes through the stormy sky like fierce fire.
Copper skids and stumbles in reddish mud in the mire, and is covered in slimy dirt and blood. She ducks down low behind massive trees, and rubs blood onto her tattered shirt from her injured knee.
She briefly daydreams of when she walked parallel to cascading waves that would rush to shore. Her feet sank more and more into its wet white sand; it was pleasant then, but now her feet sink in the slimy reddish earth, and shakes her awake to her present jarring state.
Startling sounds echo behind Copper and she ducks down even lower to hide; all that can be seen are her almond shaped eyes. The haunting sounds move closer and resound, and her chest quickly pounds as her heart frantically races.
Copper hears men faintly whisper and heavily breathe, and sees mud slosh under their feet. The men in pursuit intensely lash reddish mud with their boots. Startling lightning flashes through the sky like fierce fire. The brutes see her silhouette crouching behind massive trees. She frantically dashes away and her tattered shirt sleeve gets trapped on hanging branches. She sees the violent men move closer and closer and rips off her sleeve and skids on her knees under broken trees.
Everything is blurry...
Confused, Copper's tattered shirt is gone and her body is exposed. She intensely rubs the back of her aching neck and head. She slowly opens her almond eyes in despair and dismay; her arms throb and are tightly tied and she sees other frightened women inside.
A quiet man with piercing eyes stands at the gate to make sure the tortured women don't escape. Another brute screams out to the quiet man unintelligible commands. Piercing eyes slam the gate shut and startling lightning flashes through the stormy sky like fierce fire.
Some women wearily weep and some close their frightened eyes; others blankly stare off into a dumbfounded daze, while others bitterly despise the brutish men who hold them captive as slaves.
Copper looks up at rain that drips from a hole in the tin ceiling. She recklessly rips and painfully pulls her arms until they are numb with no feeling. The tight ropes bruise her weak arms, but she resiliently twists and turns.
The quiet man with piercing eyes suddenly returns. Copper stays still and subdued. His silence leaves the women even more startled of him than the aggressive men. He unties one woman and she weeps and screams. He bluntly slaps her and drags her out by her hair; it was silent again throughout...
The brutes with ravenous eyes grab the girl and throw her to the ground onto her knees, where all can see the wretched sight of brutality. The disgusting men scream again unintelligible words, but Copper feels deep within her fearful soul that they ask for her.
The quiet man opens the gate and slowly walks towards Cooper. She was able to get her hands free and throws the quiet man down to her feet. She chokes him with her ankles and ties ropes around his throat, and the vicious, obscene men do not see, because they indulge deeply in the other young woman's misery.
Copper quickly ties his arms and legs up tightly. She quietly releases the women and ducks down so she can't be seen. The naked women shake because of the rain. They quietly crouch down low and closely follow Copper. The gate creaks as it opens but the violent men are preoccupied; sadly, the young woman is the escaping women's scapegoat. The brutish men take horrendous turns on her hopeless, helpless soul, like ferocious lions devouring a doe. To them, she is nameless, and nameless she will remain...
Copper has the weak women vigorously run for their lives, causing them to realize they are strong, but have always been told they are pathetic and pitiful! Naked and cold, they hide behind massive trees and reddish mud covers their knees, thighs, and hips; all that can be seen are almond shaped eyes and trembling lips.
Startling lightning flashes through the stormy sky like fierce fire! The frightened women quickly slosh in exhaustion through the reddish mire. The satiated men leave the scapegoat to die in the violent rain. They think the darkness hides their acts of shame. These men laugh with indulgent, full bellies and slowly slide through the gate, but it is ironically too late!
The men shockingly see the quiet man with piercing eyes is tied and has died, and they grab their boots and frantically run in a fury and aggressive rage. Flashes of lightning is the only brightness in these wretched woods and the exhausted women are still resiliently running for their lives.
Copper fearfully slips into despair, because she doesn't know where the frightened women can hide. They stop to breathe and crouch behind massive trees. The brutes in pursuit intensely lash reddish mud with their boots. Copper now knows the only hope they all have; she calls them all together and whispers a ruthless plan.
The naked women crouch down low with jagged tree limbs and broken branches in their hands. Copper sees furious men faintly whisper and heavily breathe, and hears the mud slosh under their feet in the mire.
Startling lightning flashes through the stormy sky like fierce fire! Rain and hail violently strike the earth and the oppressed women lash and strike their oppressors.
These women's screams haunt these men more than thunders violent crashes!
Blood and mud rush like cascading waves that hit the shore. Copper breathes heavily and bluntly knocks out one of the men, and turns him over and pushes his face deeply into the reddish miry clay.
Brutish weary women wail wildly with piercing eyes, in the startling lightning that flashes through the stormy sky! The only brightness that can be seen in these wretched woods is fierce fiery fugitives in the slimy mire covered in blood!!!
