You were the moon.
I am the sun.
We didn't know how to exist at the same time,
but sometimes I could see your Crescent smile at Dawn...
You were the lock.
I am the key.
You couldn't see over the walls that doubts and fears surrounded you with;
you were enslaved, but on rare occasions,
you let me into your cage
without lashing out, stinging, and biting me...
You were a recluse.
I am a lion!
You kept your soul trapped inside and wanted the same for me,
but I am wild and free,
so together we could not be...
You were the air.
I am fire!
You wouldn't let me breathe,
but during certain moments, you amazed me;
you blew on my embers so hope would not become dark as night in me,
because you knew the only way I could thrive, is to be what I was made to be,
bright and radiant as the day and the sun!
You were the water bearer,
I am a wishing well.
You became so consumed with the weight of what you toted,
which was duly noted,
but I burst forth like a spring;
One who is a source of life not drudgery,
but still you could not see,
I am real.
I am tangible.
I exist!
But you insisted on looking for mermaids,
when in reality,
mermaids are just manatees and you were perpetually disappointed!
But I am real.
I am tangible.
I exist!
I kissed your dreams awake like the morning mist but you missed it,
because you insisted on looking for mermaids...
You quickly became the past, because you hated change!
I am the now!
I am present in every moment!
But I couldn't be chained
because I am untamed, so love and momentum found me, wooed me, drew me...
... and still draws me on every wall, draws me on every moment and every page!
...and etches me on every sunset, sunrise, and every stage of life!
...and paints me on every canvas the future has made and will ever make!
